#4 | Basic Tilesets

Hello!

It's been too long since I wrote a devlog. This one will focus on the art I've created thus far.

Unsatisfied with placeholder tiles, I spent a few hours learning how to use Aseprite and making tiles.

To cut down on the time it took to make ground tiles, I made the green set first before copy/pasting and recoloring them to make stone and water tiles. I did the same thing for the wooden and stone flooring.

The building tiles took the longest to make. Initially, I created a few basic tiles like the ones shown below. Then I decided that I need many more variations for depth, which lead to me spending way too much time editing and reimporting my tileset which became very frustrating. Ultimately, I settled on the ones pictured below as they are quite simple. I might make the odd change, but I intend to keep my tiles simple.

With the tiles finished, I created good sized map.

One member of the PanCanadianFoamBlasters (PanCan) Discord server has agreed to work with me on this project. So far, I've tasked him with sketching out a better map that I can then recreate in the project files. I look forward to working more with him, and maybe other people who take interest in the project.

I've also come to the decision to completely rewrite the game design document, to make the game better fit the theme of traditional Nerf Humans versus Zombies (HvZ), played across many college campuses in the USA. I'll be studying the game in depth to further my understanding of it, as I've only been able to play a simplified version of it with British Columbia Foam Flingers (BCFF).

Thanks for reading!
